Master of Science in Biology’s’ Thesis: “Evolution scenarios of wooded formation
in the wildlife species distribution models (SDMs). A LANDIS application to the
distribution of Nyctalus leisleri (Chiroptera, Mammalia) in Molise”.
Under the supervision of the researchers of the Envix Lab, located at the
University of Molise, developed a procedure for evaluating the effects of forest
management on the distribution of species with wide vagility.
This procedure works on regional scale and it based on scenarios for the
evolution of forests, resulting from different kind of forest management.
In particular, a protocol for the use of the software Landis was established, whose
aim was the development of multi-temporal patterns for the potential distribution
of a species of bat closely linked to the forest ecosystem: the Leisler noctule bat.
This approach was applied on a temporal range of 200 years and it is able to
predict the environmental management with lower impact.
The study has focused on the region of Molise, containing areas of the project
Life ManFor. Ideed, this thesis is part of a LIFE+ project ( Project Life+ “Manfor”
C.BD. LIFE09ENVIT000078 - Managing forests for multiple purposes: carbon,
biodiversity and socio-economic wellbeing), particularly in the objectives of
the action ForBD, which concerns actions for the development of panEuropean impact indicators related to forest biodiversity.
